Chapter 1
India : Yavatmal
26th January 2004 3:30 AM
The night was warm and humid. The darkness attenuated by the moon’s light which was in its new crescent phase. From behind the thick shrubs and dozens of banyan trees, Aasha moved forward, slithering like a snake, inch by inch till a faint glow of light revealed her face. Her skin glistened with perspiration, highlighting her rugged features. She looked ahead towards the dry and dusty open space. The sight of policemen brought relief on her face. She grinned when she saw them chatting near the small makeshift bonfire. As she moved closer her vista expanded. Her eyes lit up when she saw a couple of commandos. She did not expect them. Her grin widened. Her controllers in the city would be pleased. Killing them would bring glory and fame within the group.
Timing was important. She knew the policemen and the commandos would not stay for long. They had to strike now. Aasha looked back into the wilderness. She knew somewhere in the dense vegetation and behind the thick forest of cactus plants, sixteen men were waiting for her orders. The time had come to signal them; to move and terminate the enemy.
Aasha was a naxalite, a self proclaimed soldier with a cause. She was the commander of Elite Naxal Group, one of the most dreaded syndicate operating from the border state of Andhra.
